Although there is little doubt that this is of some inconvenience, most people agree that it is worth the wait in order to have a long lasting, realistic and fully functional tooth again.

At the Darren Bywater Dental Implant centre, we also offer a procedure called an ‘all on 4’. This is also sometimes known as ‘teeth in a day’ which may be why some people believe that dental implants can be placed in a single day and they can leave the surgery with a brand new tooth. Unfortunately, it doesn’t quite work like that and individual dental implants and an all on 4 are generally used for different circumstances.

Individual Dental Implants

When an individual tooth has been lost, or perhaps one or two more, these can be replaced with individual implants. The procedure for this is that the implant is placed into the jaw and because of the properties of titanium from which it is made, the bone gradually grows around and integrates itself fully with the implant. This however does take approximately three months and is the reason why dental implants are extremely strong and long lasting and why permanent crowns are not placed until this process has taken place. If a crown were to be attached to the implant immediately, the implant may become unstable and could fail very quickly.

‘Teeth in a Day’

The all on 4, or teeth in a day procedure is used in different circumstances and most commonly when a full arch of teeth is to be replaced. This procedure also uses dental implants, two conventional placements and two which are placed at carefully calculated angles which helps hold a full arch of replacement teeth in place almost immediately. This procedure does mean that the patient can leave the practice with a full set of teeth – however it should be noted that the all on 4 implant procedure is not suitable for everyone.

For all implant placements, even with the teeth in a day procedure, care should be taken for a while afterwards as the implants may cause soreness and extra sensitivity for a little while. Caution should be taken when eating including softer foods for a while in order to allow the implant integration process to complete. As you would expect, our highly qualified team will provide full instruction throughout the course of your treatment with us.

Whichever method of dental implants are used though, there is little doubt that this method of replacing lost teeth, so popular at our Derby practice, will give long lasting results which are well worth any wait that is needed.

What implant placement options are open to me in Derby?
