The Psychological Benefits of Having Great Teeth
Why a good looking smile is a positive asset
Having great looking teeth is something that most people wish for. Many however, have long given up on this and feel that as long as their teeth function reasonably well and they can eat, then they will simply live with them as they are. This may change, of course, if a visible front tooth becomes lost, when they may opt for a partial denture simply to close the gap.
Apart from any practical advantages a dental implant offers over a partial denture, such as stability and strength though, there is another side to many cosmetic dental procedures which is often underrated but really shouldn’t be as it can have a dramatic effect on people’s lives. This is the psychological aspect of it; the way that people feel about themselves; this can make the difference between a life simply lived and one lived to the very fullest. At the Darren Bywater Dental Implant Centre in Derby, we offer dental implants which can change your life in this manner. Whilst this may sound like a bold claim, many of our patient really do report that their lives have changed for the better after dental treatment with us. So why is this?
The Confidence of a Great Smile
Most of us, at some time, probably have doubted our abilities, whether to be in a successful relationship or to succeed in becoming at the top of our profession. In most cases, the margins for success here are quite slim and confidence tends to be the factor which determines the line between success and failure. Whilst having great teeth won’t instantly guarantee success, it will certainly give added confidence which can help to attain these goals.
Whether it is an interview or a date, there is little doubt that a warm smile instantly breaks down many barriers and helps to establish an early bond between people. This can have the effect of relaxing a potential partner and making conversation much easier or to give an employer the confidence that you are a warm and open individual who they can trust. These first obstacles are very often the hardest to break through and a great smile will certainly give you a head start.
A smile though, can be very difficult if you are not happy with the way that your teeth look. If you have discoloured teeth or in the market to replace a missing tooth then the chances are that you will be much more reluctant to really let your smile show. It is here then that cosmetic dentistry comes into its own. As well as strengthening the functionality of a person’s teeth, it can also make them look great too.
The Role of Dental Implants
Visible front teeth do become lost or badly damaged, sometimes through accidents. This can be devastating to a person’s confidence and very few people will simply leave the gap, with most opting for a partial denture or a bridge. Both of these, however, are not ideal as it is often obvious that a person has had a bridge and whilst a partial denture may look satisfactory, it will not be as strong as a natural tooth and may have the tendency to become loose and move around. This, in turn, means that the wearer is often reluctant to trust it and consequently they tend to smile less.
A dental implant, on the other hand, once placed will be just as strong as a natural tooth and the patient will have full confidence that it will remain strongly in place thanks to the natural process of osseointegration where the implant actually bonds to the underlying jaw bone structure. This renewed confidence is what allows people to trust their own smile and, in turn, helps others to trust and open up to them, potentially creating the opportunity for a successful career or relationship. So don’t underestimate the power of a smile!
