The Cost of Cheap Implants
Why seeking out cheap dental implants is likely to be a false economy.
Few would argue that these are, perhaps, not the easiest of times financially, for many people in the UK. Combine that with the British love of a bargain or special offer and it is not surprising that some people shop around to find affordable dental treatments. This is understandable, but many people will also tell you that it pays to buy a more expensive shirt, for example, as it will last longer than one bought from a ‘value’ shop.
Whilst there may be exceptions, this is not a bad rule to follow and is also good guidance when it comes to shopping around for dental treatments.
Dental Implants
One of the most sought after dental procedures where people seek out bargains, is dental implants. Because of the extensive training involved, as well as the equipment and the cost of the implants themselves (they are made from expensive titanium), dental implants do not come cheap. Quite frankly, anyone offering them as such is possibly cutting corners in at least one of these areas.
Overseas implants
Travelling abroad for dental implants is the most common way that people look to make savings. Often cheap implant treatment overseas is combined with flights and hotels to allow for recovery time following the procedure. This, of course, does seem very appealing, but, being realistic, is it really viable? The cost of living can be cheaper in some countries and this may explain a little of the savings. However, to add flights and hotels into the deal may make you wonder about how some of the fundamental costs are being saved.
The most likely saving is to be found in the actual implants themselves.
At the Darren Bywater Dental Implant Centre, we ensure that our patients receive only the best quality implants and these are provided by the reputable Straumann company. They are a long established dental company and their implants are made from very pure titanium. This is essential to ensure that the implant integrates with the bone effectively. Overseas implant centres may well use implants that are only partially made from titanium and patients are likely to find that, even if their implant procedure appears initially successful, the implants are far less likely to integrate fully and may become loose and possibly even fall out altogether.
Because of the distance and practicalities involved, along with the concern about whether the dentist could even restore them at all, travelling back abroad to have them checked is both costly and potentially risky. Whilst there are undoubtedly many reputable implant centres abroad, there are also lots of ‘horror’ stories too, so sorting the good from the bad is a risky decision.
Although costs may be higher in the UK, you can be sure that implant dentists such as Darren Bywater are highly trained and will only use the best quality implants to ensure a positive outcome for the patient. We also offer payment plans, at our Derby implant centre, to help our patients spread the cost of treatment.
