Making a decision to have dental implants
Some questions you may wish to discuss with your local implant dentist before proceeding.
Many years of experience and training have shown us that, for many cases of missing teeth, dental implants are a superior option when it comes to replacement. Patients however, do not have this training or experience, and it is therefore quite logical, and sensible, that they will have a number of questions that they may wish to ask before deciding whether to have them placed.
At the Darren Bywater Dental Implant Centre in Derby, we understand this and are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have before committing yourself to the procedure. The following are some of the more common questions that we are asked about dental implants:
1. How do I know that dental implants will work for me?
Dental implants have a very high success rate indeed. We will first of all ascertain whether you are a suitable candidate, and where there are issues such as insufficient bone for the implants to be placed, we will also discuss options such as a bone graft to re-build it prior to the procedure. Once an implant has been placed, we will monitor it and advise you on the best ways to ensure it remains healthy, by not smoking for example.
2. How do I know that the implants are a good quality .. are there any guarantees?
At our Derby dental implant centre, we use Straumann dental implants. These are one of the leading brands, backed by many years of research and development and come with a lifetime guarantee for the titanium implant itself.
3. I’m convinced of the merits of dental implants, but isn’t it a painful procedure?
The definition of ‘pain’ varies from individual to individual but there is no reason to expect the dental implant procedure to be any more uncomfortable than any other invasive dental procedure.
Although the procedure does involve creating a hole in the jawbone, into which we place the implant, this is done using a powerful local anaesthetic. There may be a little localised soreness following the procedure, but this can be managed with over the counter pain relief and should quickly subside.
The above are just a few of the commonly asked questions about dental implants and likely you will have others too. At the Darren Bywater Dental Implant Centre, we invite you to ask us any questions that you may have when you book your initial consultation and indeed throughout the procedure and after-care process. We are proud of our reputation for providing excellent patient care and advice and we will do all we can to make your new implant experience as stress-free and rewarding as possible.
