The Economic Wisdom of Choosing Dental Implants
Why dental implants offer good value for money.
Many of us may be accustomed to headline watching but often neglect to look at the details, perhaps preferring to have a whole subject summed up in just a few words. This habit can also apply when shopping around for procedures, such as dental implants, to improve our appearance.
If a quick glance is taken at dental implants, one word which can spring to mind in many people is ‘expense’. Whilst this may perhaps be understandable, it is a simplistic view of a cosmetic dental procedure which actually offers good value for money as well as providing a top quality tooth replacement over the medium and long term. When viewed like this, it is much easier to see the value offered from the implant process.
Implants abroad
It is always sensible to be cautious of ‘offers’. Whilst we wouldn’t wish to say that all offers are bad, it is certainly worth looking into why and how prices for dental implants may be cheaper in some places than others.
There are a number of factors which may affect the price. One of these is that many cheaper dental implant procedures are performed abroad. This can represent a significant gamble as it can be difficult to ascertain exactly how qualified the dentist is in placing implants. If not fully trained and qualified, this can have quite severe consequences which may cause a lot more harm than good and necessitate remedial treatment back in the UK later on.
Implant quality
Another factor, even where a dentist is fully qualified, is in the quality of the materials that are chosen for the implant process.
To date, only titanium has shown to be a suitable metal for implants due to its ability to fuse with the bone into which it is placed. This is unfortunate in many ways as titanium is one of the most expensive metals known to man and hence why this is a significant factor in the cost of an implant.
The temptation then, for some practitioners, is to use a metal that only partially contains titanium. This is less likely to be the case in the UK where strict standards have to be met but is more likely to occur in countries with less strict regulations.
At the Darren Bywater Dental Implant Centre, we do not cut corners on the quality of our implants which are produced by leading manufacturer, Straumann. These come with a lifetime guarantee for the implant itself and are one of the best available when it comes to the fusion between bone and the implant, ensuring that the implant is held safely and securely in place.
Additionally; given the full and ongoing training that our implant dentists undergo, we can offer an implant service that is of the highest standard.
Long term benefits
Although we are aware that some people may opt for a cheaper option, such as a dental bridge, in order to manage their budgets, the fact is that a bridge simply does not have the strength, convenience or longevity of a dental implant.
Although the initial outlay for a dental implant is certainly higher than for a bridge or partial denture; given that it should be expected to last in the region of twenty years and more, if the cost is divided by the number of years of life expectancy of the implant, it is often more cost effective over the longer term.
Added to this that, apart from regular dental check ups at our Derby implant centre, no special aftercare is needed. Implants offer strong and effective replacement teeth that should cause no major problems and allow the patient to continue with their daily lives with full confidence.
